42nd Karbi Youth Festival gets off to a glittering start

The 42nd Karbi Youth Festival under the aegis of Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) got under way with a four-day long programme at Taralangso near Diphu  in Karbi Anglong on Tuesday.

The programme was attended by Tuliram Ronghang, Chief Executive Member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC).  On the opening day programme,  Chandra Sing Kro hoisted the KCS flag and a cultural procession from the  artist village was also taken out.

The organizer informed that from today onwards different cultural programmes would be showcased on the Sinmirjeng and Longmirjeng open stage at Taralangso during the four-day long youth festival celebration. The youth festival at Taralangso will reverberate with drum sounds and other ethnic musical instruments during the four days. Different ethnic villages, ethnic food stalls and exhibitions have been set up at Taralangso.

Governor announces cash award to Lapung

Arunachal Pradesh Governor JP Rajkhowa on Tuesday announced a cash award of Rs 10 lakh to Sambu Lapung, who clinched a gold medal in weightlifting at the ongoing South Asian Games in Guwahati and Shillong.

While expressing his happiness on the achievement of Lapung, the governor said that he would inspire the coming generations with his rare feat, a Raj Bhawan communiqué said here today.

Rajkhowa earlier in the day, also reviewed all the sports activities including State level sports events organized by the department of sports. Sports secretary Dani Salu and director Tadar Appa were present in the meeting among others. After discussions, it was decided that State level sports event need to be held to encourage sportspersons in T20, Archery and Martial Arts as well. The State government would conduct Governor’s Martial Arts Championship, Governor’s Trophy T20 Cricket and Governor’s Trophy in Archery. The winners would be given trophies as well as cash awards. The governor would soon have one to one meeting with the State level associations for Archery and Martial Arts to fine tune the events, the communiqué added.
